REMEMBERING YAYAYI – American Museum of Natural History
Australian Aboriginal elder Marlene Nampitjinpa Spencer reflects on a remarkable history in conversation with Fred Myers, an anthropologist she has known since she was a young girl. The film features rare archival footage from Spencer’s Pintupi childhood in the 1970s shot by renowned ethnographic filmmaker Ian Dunlop at the remote Aboriginal community of Yayayi, a time on the cusp of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act of 1976.
