The eagerly anticipated annual exhibition of works by Papunya Tula Artists opened in Alice Springs on Friday 23rd November. The Mixed Exhibition featured recent works from the emerging and established artists from Kintore and Kiwirrkura. Artists and their families joined a crowd of more than 150 people from around Australia to celebrate the company’s premier exhibition event.
Curator of the Charles Darwin University Art Collection, Anita Angel, officially opened the exhibition.
This year the exhibition format was broadened to honour the tremendous contribution of two of Papunya Tula Artists leading painters:
TJAMPITJINPA – Commemorative Exhibition
Celebrating the exceptional talent of the late Martin Tjampitjinpa, this commemorative exhibition was opened by Tjampitjinpa’s mother, Walangkura Napanangka, his skin sister Yuyuya Namptjinpa and niece Lorna Nangala.
MAKINTI – Solo Exhibition
A selection of masterworks by one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, Makinti Napanangka – senior artist and shareholder of Papunya Tula Artists – this recent body of works is Makinti’s first major exhibition in over four years.
