When we travel we go in search of culture and beauty. We travel through the country of our ancestors or we discover new and
exotic climes. In this exhibition we are invited to travel through country that informs us of one of the oldest cultures in the world.
These six senior artists from Papunya Tula Artists in the western desert take us on a journey of discovery to show us their country and give us an insight into Pintupi culture.
‘Travelling Through Country’, a selection of twenty four premium works from Papunya Tula Artists opens at Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi in Fitzroy, Melbourne on June 26th.
This show consists of work by six of the company’s highest profile painters, each contributing four works each. Senior artists Wintjiya Napaltjarri and Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula from Kintore, further establish themselves as key company figures and community leaders through their powerful work, while younger generation Kiwirrkura women Yukultji Napangati and Yinarupa Nangala continue to assert themselves at the forefront of the women’s movement. Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri and Nyilyari Tjapangati also offer up brilliant new works produced over the last twelve months.
