Papunya Tula Artists in association with Utopia Art Sydney is proud to present Ningura Napurrula: a survey 2005-2009. This body of work depicts ceremonies at the sites of Wirrul and Ngami in Western Australia.
Ningura was born at Watulka, south of the Kiwirrkura Community circa 1938. She is the widow of Yala Yala Tjungurrayi, an artist and former shareholder of Papunya Tula Artists. Ningura commenced painting for the company in 1996.
In the decade that followed, Ningura established her self as a confident leader amongst the female painters. She is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
In 2004 Ningura was one of eight Aboriginal artists selected to have an example of their work incorporated into the architecture of the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris. This museum opened in June 2006, and houses the French collection of art from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.
