Having completed her first paintings for Papunya Tula Artists in 1998, this is the long awaited first solo exhibition of Kawayi Nampitjinpa and it coincides with her inclusion as a finalist in the 28th Telstra Awards. Nampitjinpa has painted regularly for Papunya Tula Artists since 2003 having exhibited in 28 groups shows throughout Australia and in Singapore and with her work being held in four public collections.
Kawayi Nampitjinpa joins a distinguished list of solo exhibitions curated by Papunya Tula Artists Pty Ltd that showcase leading and emerging artists with lives and practice embedded in the historic Aboriginal artists’ company. She is a finalist in the 28th Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award along with fellow Papunya Tula Artists Bobby West Tjupurrula, George Tjungurrayi, Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula, Wintjiya Napaltjarri and Yakultji Napangati.
