Papunya Tula Artists would like to congratulate Makinti Napanangka, from Kintore, who was awarded the coveted Telstra Award at the 25th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Stria Islander Art Award.

The work selected by the judges Hetti Perkins and Judy Watson depicts ceremonies at her beloved Lupul, a rockhole site south west of Kintore in the Northern Territory.

Papunya Tula Artists would also like to also congratulate Doreen Reid Nakamarra who took out the General Painting Award with her hypnotic large-scale representation of country surrounding Kiwirrkura.

Senior artist and shareholder Naata Nungurrayi was finalist again this year along with rising star Yinarupa Nangala. This is the first time Doreen and Yinarupa have been chosen to exhibit at the Telstra Art award.

The Telstra Award of $40,000 is awarded to the work considered by judges to be the most outstanding work in the exhibition.

Additional prizes of $4,000 each are awarded in four media categories:

The Telstra General Painting Award- Doreen Reid Nakamarra.
The Telstra Bark Painting Award- Terry Ngamandara Wilson.
The Telstra Work on Paper Award- Dennis Nona.
The Wandjuk Marika 3D Memorial Award (sponsored by Telstra)- Nyapanyapa Yunupingu.
